Admission is held generally according to merit; however, the policy for admission is decided in the meeting of the Admission Committee each year.

The college imparts education to more than two thousand boys and girls at the Degree Level in Arts, Science and Vocational (Major) streams.

It has earned a special reputation as a centre of learning for the Scheduled Castes and Tribes and for other backward classes. We feel that we have a special responsibility towards these students and towards those from poorer families who had so long been denied the light of education. At the time of admission, therefore, boys and girls coming from poorer section of society are shown special consideration; even after admission their problems are dealt with sympathy.

Immediately after the results of Higher Secondary(or equivalent) examination a student seeking admission should contact the Admisson Sub-Committee comprising of members from the faculty, and representatives of Non-Teaching employees and the Students' Union. This Sub-Committee formulates rules for admission, following the guidelines of the University of Calcutta and very recently the West Bengal State University, Barasat. Candidates seeking admission should then apply in a prescribed format to the Principal of the College.
